Progress and Distraction

Happy Leap Day! I hope you got to enjoy at least some of your extra 24 hours doing something you wanted. I spent most of today taking care of my unwell baby. She's not full on sick, but she's certainly not herself. However, she went to bed early, so Mommy gets some extra knitting time tonight.

I'm making slow progress on the Death Star, but I feel a lot more confident about it now. I had a little help from my friends, and we discovered this really great pattern from Tin Can Knits. She wrote this fantastic pattern for a polka dot blanket, where the dots turn into squares, which is EXACTLY what I need the Death Star to do! So I'm knitting a washcloth according to the pattern to test it out and see how I can apply it to the Death Star. Once I get this technique down, I'm taking on the Death Star and bringing it down!

So along the way, I may have gotten a little distracted. And when I say a little, I mean a little. Like tiny. No... smaller. Itty bitty. Well, here, just... well, just look.
I've been tatting on and off for a while, but suddenly, because I'm insane or something, I needed to pick it back up. Normally, I use a shuttle, which is how I made the flower and butterflies above, but I took it one step further this round and learned needle tatting, which is the other method of tatting. For those of you a little less familiar, tatting is a process of lace making that uses either a shuttle (or two shuttles) or a needle. Through producing series of knots, you can create all kinds of beautiful shapes. Check out my Pinterest Board to see what I mean.

Okay, I'm going to stop yammering for now and get back to that crazy circle-square magic. I'll report in soon,

More Star Wars Stuff

I finally have more pictures!! I finished the little hat this morning, and I'm completely in love. It's definitely newborn size. It looks so small! I think there's enough yarn to make a bigger one, so if I have time, I may try to make it bigger. Here it is!! (Please ignore the mess in the background...my life...)

It makes me so happy! I also took a shot of the Death Star, but it kind of just looks like a grey blob right now. But I'm sharing anyway! You're welcome!

So, there you have it.

Star Wars Stuff

This past week I have been working like crazy on a really fun project. A friend of mine is having a baby, and she's due next month. They're having a boy, and they've decided on a Star Wars themed nursery. How cool is that?! So she's asked me to knit her some themed baby gear!!

I powered through the Yoda baby sweater, and I'm very happy with it. I used KnitPicks Brava Worsted in Camel Heather, and I am really impressed. This yarn is pretty sweet. It's soft and squishy, and a dream to work with, especially compared to more common acrylic. It comes in a wide range of colors, and is surprisingly well priced. At $2.99 per 218 yards, it's pretty cost effective. Comparatively, Vanna's Choice is $4.39 for 121 yards and, shhhh...I think the Brava is softer.

This is not a paid endorsement. However, should any yarn company like to send me yarn to review, I'd be MORE than happy to do this. Just putting that out there.

Anyway, The sweater is now almost complete. All I need to do is the i-cord ties, and block the edge. I'm also working on a Yoda hat, also in Brava, but this time in Bulky and the color Avocado. I'm working on the gauge swatch for that.

It's the last part of this project that I'm most excited about. I am knitting a Death Star blanket. Yup. But, being the little bit of crazy that I am, I wanted to make sure that the Death Star is perfectly round. so I'm knitting it round, from the center out, much like EZ's Pi Shawl. But I don't want the final blanket to be round, I want the final blanket to be square. I have not seen anywhere a pattern in knitting that starts round and ends square, or lace. I feel like lace can do weird things like that, but I don't want it lacy. This is, after all, THE DEATH STAR!

More pictures to come as things progress. But for now...

Time Flies When You're In Space

Wow... 2012 was the last time I posted here.. 4 years ago!! I've never stopped knitting, but I may have lost count a little, but only a little. Let's see what I can come up with, and bring this bad boy back to life!!

Okay, so let's recap a little here. When I left you all in 2012, I'd already graduated college and gotten married. Since then, we've moved out on our own, moved back in with other family, and had a baby. A beautiful baby girl who's now almost 9 months old, and I love her a little bit more every day.
Enough of the sappy stuff. On to the good stuff!

I've been knitting like mad crazy, and am opening my own yarn store very soon. In fact, the online store is already up and running, and we've got some pretty cool stuff in there! Go check it out! AStringThing.com Well, go on, I'll wait here.

I've also been working on some crazy projects that I can't wait to share with you, all in the crazy effort to knit to the moon. I'll be posting pictures and stuff soon, and hopefully I'll get some finished items and closer to the moon! For now, I'm going to stalk my mailbox until my yarn gets here.

See you soon!
